Camp Ocean Pines 2019
17 June, 2019
Dear Vivace Parents,
First, let me say how much I look forward to working with your children for the 2019-20 choir season, CCYC’s 26th year. Our choir community is growing and most of you know that exciting plans are in place for lots of fun events all year long, culminating in the CCYC’s second international tour--Scotland 2020! In order to reach our musical challenges, Vivace’s first scheduled event is the weekend retreat at Camp Ocean Pines.
For the last four years, Vivace Choir has kicked off the fall concert series at COP in Cambria. This retreat has been a memorable and fruitful way to begin the choir year and we are excited to offer this opportunity once again from Friday evening, August 23rd, through Sunday morning, August 25th, 2019. An invaluable time of musical and social growth, the COP retreat is often recalled as singers’ favorite choir experience . . . new friends are made and old bonds are strengthened, while chaperones are inspired by the choristers’ singing & exuberance!
This time away serves several purposes: introducing Vivace songs; determining vocal parts/forming musical sections; and part-learning with concentrated rehearsal of difficult passages. I will hold the first 5 rehearsals at COP, getting a headstart on our December repertoire, but we will also be preparing for a new & fun concert in early spring titled “Scoops & Songs--Sing into Spring” featuring Vivace on solos, duets, etc. At camp, we will again sharpen musicianship and vocal production skills. Emphasis will be placed on bonding & team-building with time devoted to social development, both structured and unstructured.
Since the retreat comprises our initial rehearsals, I expect all Vivace members to attend this special weekend. If your singer is unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. However, I strongly believe in the benefits of this activity for the whole group as well as for individual singers--I do not want any Vivace singer to miss the retreat due to financial reasons. Because COP costs are viewed as an extension to our Vivace tuition, scholarships are being offered this year. There is a place to check on the form if a scholarship will allow your singer to attend COP. The cost for 5 meals and 2 nights lodging is $200 per person, and includes a full schedule of team building activities, bonfire with s’mores, musicianship training and rehearsal sessions. CCYC will use donated funds to cover internal costs, such as insurance and director & accompanist meals/lodging. The lodge meals are generous and delicious, and are tailored to specific dietary needs as needed.
Chaperones are needed! Without your help, this trip won’t be possible! Duties: help with check-in & out; help singers settle into cabins; attend meals and encourage appropriate socialization; perform bed-check & spend the night with your cabin group; assist the director during rehearsals/activities; be available for needs that may arise. Usually, two chaperones split daytime duties, giving each *off* time to read, soak up the lovely surroundings, etc. Chaperones are needed to facilitate a small-group session or two—no previous experience needed😊 All are welcome to participate in and/or observe all activities/rehearsals. Thank you for considering spending the weekend with us! Chaperones, we have included your lodging cost in our budget, and ask if you could help with the meal cost of $88. Let us know if you need scholarship funds to help with your portion of the cost. Online registration forms and payments are due by August 9th.
1. If paying by credit card, may choose that option on the online registration form. An invoice will be sent to you via email.

2. If paying by check, you may mail the payment to: CCYC, PO Box 15757, SLO, CA 93406 - Attn: COP Retreat
Please contact Mrs. Svenn with any questions you may have. We are so looking forward to another year of music-making!
Thank you,
